I recently received a telephone call from a person that I did not want to have my number. This is the reason my number was changed to an unlisted number. Is there a difference between an unlisted number and a private number? I know the operator cannot give out an unlisted number, so how did he get it? No family member would give it out and he doesnt know any of my friends.

If you have ever given this phone number to creditors or on any document, it’s out there to purchase or perhaps even for free. You just have to know where to get it and have a means to get it. And it may not necessarily be illegal. Those privacy policies only protect you to a certain extent. In some situations, not at all.
Once you or a family member give that number to someone, you have no control over who that person gives it to. You may think this person you didn’t want to call doesn’t know any of your friends, but he may know a friend of a friend. This is most likely what happened.
